Laser Cut Ribs for the

ABC 665 sq in MY SIN

Nostalgia FF Gas or SAM RC Nostalgia

MY SIN is a great nostalgia gas model, designed by S. S. Hackenburg, of El Paso, Texas in the early 50s. I had flown with Hack in the late 50s and built my own ABC 665 sq inch My Sin in about 1960, which I lost in El Paso - it was returned about a year later - engine, timer, LG, fuselage front end and pylon only, with my name/address on it. The finder said that Texas cows had eaten all the rest!

By ABC, we mean that the plans say that the model can be built for .19 to .35 engines. The model tends to build light, so building down to weight for a .19 is possible, but the model is much more satisfying with a strong .29/.32/.35!

MY SIN has, within the last few years, been very successfully campaigned as a NosGas FF by Arch Harlan here in Phoenix and by Bill Vanderbeek nationally. John Patton of Phoenix flew his My Sin at the Claremore SAM Champs in SAM RC Nostalgia and demonstrated that this is a workable setup.

See notes below about SAM RC Nostalgia.

Perhaps you've looked at the plane, but thought it might be a lot of work to cut out all those different ribs and to then build that tapered wing and stab. I've recently asked Bob Holman to laser cut wood for some AALmps products - this is the latest project and it really will cut down building time. What you get is 15 pairs of wing ribs, 14 pairs of wing false ribs, 14 stab ribs, and 12 stab false ribs, with smooth rib contours and very accurately cut spar notches. The wing ribs are shipped as 4 sheets of 3/32" X 3" X 36" balsa and the stab ribs as 2 sheets of 3/32" X 3" X 24" balsa. They will be shipped in a USPS triangular mailing tube, and sent by priority mail in the US. There's also a combination offered if you need plans plus the ribs.

Note that the stabilizer shown above in a picture link is being built for SAM Nostalgia RC. The rear double 1/8" X 1/4" spars have been replaced with a 1/4" X 3/8" full spar, and the elevator has a similar spar for hinging.

Let's look at My Sin for the SAM RC Nostalgia event:

Rules say 100 ounces/cubic inch of engine displacement, so a .29 powered model should weigh a minimum of 29 ounces, etc.

There are 2 classes: Small: 0 to .2990 cu inch glow/diesel or 0 to .35 ignition; Large: .30 to .65 cu inch glow/diesel or .35 to 1.2 ignition.

Engine run: glow/diesel = 18 sec; ignition = 25 sec.

Max is 7 minutes.

Models may be hand launched, ROG or VTO!

As a NosGas Free Flight model, the My Sin will readily VTO [Vertical Take Off] with a strong .29/.32/.35, so if we can keep the weight down on an RC model, VTO may be possible. Is that a good idea? I don't know, but it would sure get every one's attention!
