The 63rd Annual
Southwest Regionals Model Airplane Championships
will be held on 19, 20, 21 January, 2013 at Eloy, Arizona
AMA officials have told us that the SW Regionals is among the longest running contests in the US! We're proud of our history and we're going to try to keep doing our best for as long as we can.
UPDATE:14 JAN 13
Changed details regarding Free Flight access to fields for chasing
Added info about prizes for Jetex/Rapier event
Changed effective dates for Half-A-Wake to 1937-1950
Changed Nostalgia Rubber to 'small' & 'large'
VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE 14 JAN 13:
We have new field restrictions that were just dictated to us by the farming operation that surrounds us. We have no alternative but to comply. We are no longer free to roam in all directions to recover our models.
Here are the new rules.
Keep your chase bikes, quads, bicycles of all types, and all other types of vehicles off of the farm land. There is a “No Trespass” sign at all of the entry points. There is also a notation below each sign that states we are welcome to come onto the farm fields to retrieve our models, but we must walk.
If you are observed by any of the workers to bring your chase bike onto the farm land, the sheriff will be called and you will be issued a citation for Trespass.
We ask for your cooperation and your assistance to “spread the word” so that all who are here can enjoy our contest to the maximum extent possible.
FYI: We have started to search for a different location, but it will take time.
If you have questions about this policy, feel free to call the following:
Al Lidberg; Cell 480-309-6564

Due to concerns over liability and abuses in the past,
we must require:
1. That you have a 2013 AMA license or a receipt from the AMA or a contest director showing you have paid for current membership. You can pay for your license at the site, and we will give you a receipt.
2. That ALL fuse dethermalizers employ a positive extinguishing device (snuffer)
3. That all models entered display the modeler's AMA license number
If you do not comply with items #1, 2 and 3, you will not be allowed to fly on the venue of SWR.
Note that we now have some restrictions regarding access to surrounding fields for chasing. The farmer does not allow wheeled vehicles [bicycles, motorcycles, cars/trucks] on any of his fields - which are ALL of the fields surrounding our original 1/2 mile X 1 mile field. This includes fields on the east side of Toltec Road..

and supporter of modeling in
The SAM RC area will be located in the SW section of the field and is reached using our south entrance. Be sure to stay to the right [north side] of the irrigation ditch.
The prevailing wind is generally from the South in the morning hours. There normally is a mid day lull with a wind shift of 180 degrees coming out of the north. Early morning temperatures can be quite chilly. While normally in the mid 30s we have seen temperatures below 20 degrees. Day temps usually rise rapidly, warming into the 70s~80s by mid afternoon. As the sundown approaches, temperatures fall off rapidly. We plan to fly to Category II times.
Camping is permitted on the field. Porta Potties will be located in our major flight line areas.
Chasing. We now have active/irrigated farm land on the north, east, south, and west sides of our field. YOU MAY NOT ride your motorcycles onto the plowed or planted areas, including the graded access roads around them. We must walk from the edges onto the field to retrieve our models. Anyone violating this rule will be immediately ejected from the field.
Local Speed Limits.
The City of
Safety. We have several irrigation ditches within the boundary of our field. We have foot bridges over all of them and most are marked with a PVC pole. Be watchful of animal burrows, tire tracks etc when you ride. At times there may be a single wire electric fence surrounding the flying field. Be watchful for it. If you unhook it to cross it, hook it up again. We are responsible for the cattle that might be on the field.
Note that in view of the widely scattered flight lines, we are not expecting to have on-field food service.
Campers can use tents, trailers and motor homes, but the only facilities we
offer are J-Johns.
